Guest forward3 Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 I have had to replace my DUNLOP sports every year (12,000) and I have had enough. I hear from another forum that Continental or Firestones are good and last. Anyone have any suggestions. Quote
Guest nelse Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 I thought i was doing badly on my dunlop sports, having only about enough legal tread to do another 1,500-2000 miles left on my fronts, rears still have plenty left, probably be able to double the milage before needing a change. (currently done 17,000). I'd be well pi..., er annoyed at only geting 12,000 out of the fronts Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 ..and ISTR that someone reported that Michelins tended to last a lot longer, even if they are a little bit more expensive to buy in the first place (assuming you get to run them to the end of the tread, rather than have their life cut short by some errant knife blades......) Ivor Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I just replaced all four of my SP Sport 2020s for Quote
Topbloke Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 i got around 22k miles on my 2020's and a lot of people that i have spoken to do so also, so either you are heavy footed  or there is an underlying problem that should be addressed before you go to far on a new set of tyres Quote
seatkid Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I'm on my second set of Conti Sport Contacts at 60,000 - about half worn - so I get about 40K a set (rotated f/r at about 20-25k) and I change before 2mm of tread... Quote
XN85 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Being totally unimpressed with tyre-life and grip from the standard-fit Dunlop 2020s, I have now replaced mine with a set of budget tyres. The tyres are called Star Performers (I'd never heard of them either!) and are 215/55/16 V-rated and reinforced - cost Quote
GSMGuy Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 On my previous, previous car so to speak, a 2000 306 Dturbo HDi, I would get around 10k from the front set, on the previous car, a 2003 Picasso HDi Exec, I got 13k from the fronts - Not had to replace those on the front of the Gal yet, but when I do it will be with Michelin MXM reinforced from Costco @ Quote
Guest gritrash Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 On my previous, previous car so to speak, a 2000 306 Dturbo HDi, I would get around 10k from the front set, on my previous car - 130ps TDi Golf - got 48,000 out of the fronts. Factory fit Continentals.Yes, i was paying for my own tyres. Quote
XN85 Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 I pay for my own tyres... and my wife's! Quote
Sharan Carat Posted February 26, 2005 Report Posted February 26, 2005 Glad its not just me. When I got my Sharan i put on 4 new continentals, the back ones are still on after 35,000 miles with just under half thr tread left. On the front they lasted 12000 miles tried Goodyears next again 12000 miles now trying Firestone but they appear to be lasting no longer. Quote
iainkirk Posted February 27, 2005 Report Posted February 27, 2005 I do about 40k per year and get 17,000 out of the front tyres. Always used Dunlop 2020 so far - Quote
